Sporting Omaha FC and Capital Soccer Association Announce Merger
Omaha, Neb. and Lincoln, Neb.—June 1, 2021—The Boards of Directors of Sporting Omaha FC (Omaha) and Capital Soccer Association (Lincoln) announce the merger of their organizations effective July 1, 2021. The two clubs, both prominent in their respective markets, join forces to leverage their resources for the benefit of players, coaches, and families.
“With this merger, we will offer something bigger and better than we had before on both sides,” said Sven Jasinski, Board Chair for Sporting Omaha FC.
The two clubs have been providing great soccer opportunities to youth in both Omaha and Lincoln for many years. Capital Soccer Association (CSA), established in 1980, is the oldest youth soccer club in the State and Omaha Sporting FC is the largest youth soccer club in the State, with more than 2700 members. With Sporting Omaha FC’s size and affiliations and CSA’s longevity and history, the clubs’ leadership strongly believe that as one club they can better serve both markets and the State of Nebraska, opening even more opportunities to players at all ages, genders, and skill levels.
From the beginning, both clubs have placed player development as the top priority followed closely by coaching development. This shared mission benefits the players and coaches exponentially. Players will benefit from some of the best coaching talent in the State, and gain access to training camps and programs available through Sporting Omaha FC’s affiliation with Sporting KC and national competition platforms, such as ECNL and NPL.
The merger expands the coaching pool. Coaches that have been serving in Lincoln and Omaha will continue to serve; the coaching slate will remain the same. Just like the players, the merger creates more opportunities for coaching development through Sporting KC. The better the coaching, the better the environment for the player.
“This is the best combination of Lincoln and Omaha resources so far,” said Edward Meitzen, President, Capital Soccer Association, “This merger will create the largest pairing of like-minded clubs in Lincoln and Omaha and has a structure that will provide opportunities for growth in both markets. That will be unique to our club.”
This new soccer club will be one unified nonprofit organization. One club, one community, one vision, and one passion, located in two geographically dispersed markets. Effective July 1, 2021, the club will have a new name, Sporting Nebraska FC.
The new name reflects the opportunities the merger provides for our players, coaches, and families and the geographically dispersed markets it serves. It also aligns with the club’s affiliate, Sporting KC, increasing name recognition for youth soccer in the State, across the region and nationally.
Join us on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Discovery Soccer Complex, 13502 Discovery Dr, Omaha, NE 68137, for a special event celebrating the merger and our new name, Sporting Nebraska FC. For more information, please visit www.SportingNebraskaFC.com
